2020-21 Sky Bet Championship: Week 37 – Tuesday

Bournemouth welcome Swansea to the Vitality Stadium in a huge midweek Sky Bet Championship clash.

With Reading and Barnsley not playing until Wednesday, victory would see Bournemouth move to within two points of the fifth and sixth placed teams as the battle for a play-off spot continues to build.

Swansea meanwhile can go second with a win if Watford fail to beat Rotherham in another of Tuesday’s six matches.

Philip Billing and Sam Surridge could start for Bournemouth after featuring as substitutes in Saturday’s defeat to Barnsley, having recovered from respective groin and toe injuries.

Lewis Cook (knee), Diego Rico (groin) and David Brooks (ankle) are still absent.

Swansea have no fresh injury concerns to report as Marc Guehi (groin) and Paul Arriola (thigh) remain ruled out

Stat Attack

  • Bournemouth are unbeaten in their last eight meetings against Swansea (W5, D3).
  • Swansea have won just two of their last six trips to Bournemouth (W2, D1, L3).
  • Each of the last two draws in this fixture have finished goalless, albeit away at Swansea’s ground rather than Bournemouth.
  • Arnaut Danjuma’s six goals for Bournemouth this season have all come in the Championship.
  • Swansea have scored first in just one of their last four away matches.

Prediction

After losing a huge match against Barnsley on Saturday in the play-off race, Bournemouth need a strong performance ahead of their FA Cup Quarter-Final because for all of their attacking effort it proved to be defensive errors which cost them against the Tykes and potentially a play-off spot.

Swansea meanwhile claimed a clinical away win at Luton on Saturday in difficult windy conditions, yet they did often leave defensive doors open for the Hatters which luckily went unpunished through great goalkeeping.

I therefore am expecting a much tighter game here because Bournemouth know defeat could leave them eight points adrift of a play-off spot if Barnsley beat Wycombe on Wednesday evening, whilst Swansea need to keep pace in the race for second so a draw would be a decent bet but I think Bournemouth will just be the more cleaner defensively.

Prediction: Bournemouth 2-1 Swansea

Result: Bournemouth 3-0 Swansea
