Williams have unveiled their new FW43b which George Russell and Nicholas Latifi will race throughout 2021 Formula One season.
As the team prepares for their first full season under Dorilton Capital following the team’s sale last August, they will sport an all-new livery with last season’s white livery dropped in favour of a blue colour scheme containing sky blue stripes on the engine cover and a white front nose.
Williams Racing CEO, Jost Capito paid tribute to the team’s success which was achieved through ‘sheer determination and grit intertwined with innovation, passionate and skilful race-craft’, whilst looking ahead in stating that those past glories ‘cannot be relied upon’ in defining future success in F1.
Capitol also spoke of the fresh new livery as being a design that acknowledged the team’s past through the W appearing in white font across the top of the engine cover, which is covered in various shades of blue but ‘retains the spirit, drive and motivation’ which remains within Williams’ DNA.
The livery design is inspired by several of Williams’ successful cars across the 1980 & 90s with blue, white and yellow accents covered across the entire car livery.
Discussing future plans as marking a step in the right direction, Capitol said: “Whilst we are just starting out on this journey and there is still a lot of work to do, we are happy to see momentum in the right direction and look forward to continuing that progress on track this season.”
The car’s unveiling however comes against a late backdrop of their augmented reality app being hacked hours prior to the 2pm (GMT) launch, which forced them to abandon that plan and instead opt for a standard social media drop at the scheduled time.
Williams will run the car at the pre-season test in Bahrain from 12-14 March 2021 with the season getting underway two weeks later at the same circuit from 26-28 March, as a 23 race calendar was finalised this morning with the addition of Portugal.
