Mason Greenwood Extends Manchester United Contract to June 2025

Mason Greenwood has signed a new four-and-a-half year extension to stay at Manchester United until June 2025.

Greenwood first joined Utd at the age of seven and rose through the academy to earn his competitive debut in early March 2019, after previously being only featuring with the first team in pre-season ahead of the 201-19 campaign under Jose Mourinho.

Speaking on his rise through the academy ranks and establishing himself as a first team regular with 21 goals in 82 appearances across all competitions, Greenwood said: “When you join the club at seven years old, you just dream of playing for the first-team one day.”

The 19 year-old went on to describe the last two years as ‘amazing’ in which he also made his England bow after working hard to reach the level required to be rewarded with international football.”

On his decision to stay at Old Trafford, Greenwood believes that the club is the right place for him to develop, saying: “There is so much that I want to achieve in the game and I know that this is the perfect environment to play my football.”

Greenwood also praised ‘the support’ of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Utd’s coaching team and his teammates in helping him believe that he is developing as a player every day on and off the pitch.

Utd currently sit second in the Premier League and Greenwood believes that this is the start of bigger things to come for him and the club, as he said: “There is a lot more to come from myself and this team and I am so committed to working hard week in, week out to help the group achieve success.”

Manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has handed starts to nine academy graduates this season including Greenwood, hailed the youngster as a ‘fantastic talent’ who is ‘naturally gifted’ and praised his ‘great progress’ throughout this season with ‘real maturity and adaptability’ to his gameplay.

Gunnar Solskjaer however has urged caution in increasing the speed of Greenwood’s development, saying: “Whilst it is easy for people outside of {Utd} to forget that Mason is just 19, it is our job as coaches to ensure he reaches his phenomenal potential and every step we take is to help him along that path.”

Greenwood is also currently in the hunt for a spot in England’s Euro 2020 squad but a lack of game time saw him miss November’s internationals, having been snubbed in October following a breach of Coronavirus quarantine guidelines in Iceland in September after making his senior international debut.
