Tottenham Hotspur welcome Liverpool to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a blockbuster Premier League clash on Thursday Night Football.
Victory will see Tottenham leapfrog Liverpool into fourth with a win, whereas Liverpool can reclaim fourth with a win and move closer towards those above them in the title race.
Team News
Ben Davies is a doubt for Tottenham after suffering a knock to his calf in Monday’s comeback FA Cup win at Wycombe.
Matt Doherty and Dele Alli could also feature if pass late fitness tests on undisclosed injuries but Giovani Lo Celso (thigh) remains ruled out.
Liverpool could welcome Jordan Henderson back after he missed their last two matches with a muscle injury.
Joel Matip (fitness) is also set to return but Naby Keita (muscle), Diogo Jota, Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk (all knee) remain absent.
Stat Attack
- Tottenham have lost their last five league meetings against Liverpool (L5).
- Liverpool are unbeaten in four of their last five away trips to Spurs (W2, D2, L1).
- Spurs have lost four of last five clashes against Liverpool by 2-1 results.
- Reds’ Roberto Firmino has scored in three of his last four league starts against Tottenham.
- Harry Kane has scored in three of Tottenham’s last four home league games, with his three goals all coming in the first-half.
Prediction
Tottenham’s much-changed lineup were certainly made to work for Monday’s late FA Cup win at Wycombe, with Harry Kane amongst those brought on off the bench when Jose Mourinho would of hoped to rest him so will be interesting to see whether this has any implications fitness wise.
Liverpool meanwhile felt more like their old selves despite losing at Man Utd on Sunday in the FA Cup in terms of attack, although Rhys Williams proved to be their main fault so I expect to see a return to the Reds’ usual lineup with various aspects to build on here.
Saying that, Spurs will also have their strongest lineup back given the significance of this league clash in terms of the title ambitions for both teams, but if the hosts produce a performance like they did in their last league game at Sheffield Utd then Liverpool certainly face a test here.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds and Firmino in particular however seem to have the upper hand in this fixture lately and if Jordan Henderson returns in central midfield, I can see them finally rediscovering their spark and edging Spurs out for the win here if play like they did on Sunday but with stronger defending.
Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
