Norwich stay top of the Sky Bet Championship despite not playing in a depleted round of fixtures, although their lead at the top of Sky Bet Championship was trimmed slightly.

Tariq Fosu headed Brentford ahead at Swansea from Henrik Dalsgaard cross just minutes after Kyle Naughton was dismissed for the hosts following a foul on Sergi Canos, only for Conor Hourihane’s free-kick to snatch a point for the Swans who stay second but now sit six points off Norwich at the top.

Watford rose to third after goals from Troy Deeney and Ismaila Sarr defeated Stoke despite Steven Fletcher’s equaliser, before then finding themselves held at Millwall four days later in a goalless draw.

Reading stay fifth after being held by Preston in a goalless draw at Deepdale but slips three points off Swansea and Watford, of whom both sit on 47 points.

Middlesbrough endured the first of two brutal home defeats in three days as Joe Rothwell’s strike gave Blackburn a controversial win on Sunday after Dael Fry was struck in the face by Jarrad Branthwaite’s high foot.

Third-bottom Rotherham then reduced their gap to safety down to two points after strikes from Matt Crooks and Ryan Giles either side of Michael Smith’s penalty gave the Millers victory over Boro on Wednesday evening at the Riverside Stadium.

Famara Diedhiou’s three minute brace endured Bristol City went eighth despite Juninho Bacuna’s 59th minute eventual consolation offering Huddersfield hope of a valiant but fruitless fightback at Ashton Gate.

Elsewhere, Mick McCarthy replaced Neil Harris as Cardiff manager and saw Sheyi Ojo and Kieffer Moore deliver fightback goals, as the Bluebirds fought back to draw 2-2 at Barnsley who had led through Mads Andersen and Cauley Woodrow.

Colin Kazim-Richards fired in a 56th minute rebound winner on the counter-attack as Derby clinched a second consecutive win to keep themselves out of the relegation zone.

Finally, Sheffield Wednesday slipped six points off safety as Callum O’Hare provided assists for Viktor Gyokeres then Jamie Allen to record a routine home win for Coventry City.
