2020-21 FA Cup: Fourth Round – Manchester United vs Liverpool

Manchester United welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford in a blockbuster Fourth Round tie in 2020-21 FA Cup.

Victory for Man Utd or Liverpool would see them host West Ham in the Fifth Round in another all Premier League encounter.

Victor Lindelof could return for Man Utd after sitting out Wednesday’s win at Fulham with a back injury.

Marcos Rojo (calf), Brandon Williams (knock), Phil Jones (knee) and Facundo Pellistri (Coronavirus) are ruled out.

Liverpool could be without Jordan Henderson after the club captain sat out Thursday’s defeat to Burnley with a muscle injury.

Naby Keita (muscle), Diogo Jota, Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk (all knee) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Man Utd have lost just four of 17 previous FA Cup meetings against Liverpool (W9, D4, L4)
  • Liverpool have won just one of six previous FA Cup trips to Old Trafford (W1, D1, L4).
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils have drawn just one of last five home FA Cup ties against Premier League opposition (W2, D1, L2) dating back to January 2014.

Prediction

Having contested a closely fought match in which Utd parked the bus last Sunday when not unleashed on the counter, this certainly will be interesting given that the Red Devils had to fight from behind to snatch a scrappy win at Fulham in midweek despite dominating play.

Liverpool meanwhile have registered just nine of 44 shots on target in their two games this past week, which is worrying by their standard but I expect them to take this game seriously after utilising Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah as subs when likely didn’t want to.

Clinical finishing though will be the key factor here if either team are to win this in normal time but Utd are unbeaten in 16 of their last 19 and come here with confidence, so if there is a winner without the need for penalties then I am going for the Red Devils.

Prediction: Manchester United 1-0 Liverpool

Result: Manchester United 3-2 Liverpool
