2020-21 FA Cup: Fourth Round – Everton vs Sheffield Wednesday

Everton welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Goodison Park under the lights in Sunday Night Football as the Fourth Round of 2020-21 FA Cup nears its conclusion.

Victory would see either Everton or Sheffield Wednesday host the winner of Wycombe’s tie against Tottenham in the Fifth Round.

Lucas Digne won’t be risked for Everton as he continues his comeback from an ankle injury.

Alex Iwobi (undisclosed), Allan (hamstring), Fabian Delph (muscle), Niels Nkounkou (hamstring) and Jean-Phillipe Gbamin (fitness) are ruled out.

Sheffield Wednesday could welcome two unnamed players back into the matchday squad as Massimo Luongo (knee), Julian Borner (facial), Josh Windass, Chey Dunkley (both hamstring) and Kieren Westwood (groin) currently occupy the Owls’ current injury list.

Stat Attack

  • Everton have lost just five of 19 previous FA Cup meetings against Sheffield Wednesday (W9, D5, L5).
  • Sheffield Wednesday are winless in nine previous FA Cup Cup trips to Everton (D4, L5).
  • Everton have lost just one of their last five FA Cup matches against lower league opposition (W4, L1).

Prediction

Everton will definitely be fresh for this encounter given their enforced 12 day break but their home form has slipped lately with three wins in their last seven at Goodison Park across all competitions, although they did produce a solid all-round performance in their last match at Wolves despite poor man marking.

Sheffield Wednesday meanwhile haven’t played in two weeks so will too be fresh and up for this match given their upturn in form, although their FA Cup away record in this fixture is dodgy so I expect to see a strong first team fielded here.

This though feels like Everton’s to lose because if they put out a second string eleven like they did in the last round against Rotherham, I can see them struggling here otherwise if likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure start then I can see a home victory coming.

Prediction: Everton 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Result: Everton 3-0 Sheffield Wednesday
