Jenson Button has re-joined Williams 21 years after making his Formula One debut with the team, as he takes up a Senior Advisor position.

As Senior Advisor, Button will ‘provide advice and guidance’ to the team whilst assisting in the development of George Russell and Nicholas Latifi alongside those who are of Williams’ academy.

Speaking on the tough road ahead for Williams and taking up his new role, Button said; “There’s a lot of hard work to be done but I have no doubt the future is incredibly bright for this fantastic team and I can’t wait to get started.”

Button however took a moment to reflect on receiving his big break in 2000 with the team under its previous owner – Sir Frank Williams ahead of his return, saying; “Back when I was 19 it was a moment that changed my life and, despite the fact it was over 20 years ago, I already feel like I never really left.

Sir Frank Williams showed faith in me which I will be eternally grateful for and I am incredibly excited to have the chance to come back and help the team as it strives once more for success.”

Button will be in attendance at many F1 races throughout the season, providing his ‘vast wealth of experience’ in wisdom whilst also conducting media work for both team and Sky Sports F1.

This announcement comes nearly four years after 2009 world champion, Button drove his 306th and last F1 race in Monaco in 2017, having since gone on to participate in Super GT amongst various SportsCar series.

Incoming Williams CEO, Jost Capito is pleased to see the team making a ‘positive step’ in signing Button to help the team move forward on and off track.

Capito also is confident that Button’s expertise will help the team on various fronts, saying; “All this experience will add another layer to our transformation both technically and as a business. I know everyone at Grove has huge respect for him and we’re delighted to start working with him.”
