Best of Social Media Reaction to Sergio Perez’s Maiden F1 Win

Following Sergio Perez’s maiden Formula One victory at 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, here is the best of social media reaction to the Mexican’s stunning win. 

Perez who is leaving Racing Point at end of season fought back from last place at the end of lap one to snatch victory following a stunning drive through the field aided by pit stop chaos at Mercedes.

Perez’s win also marked Racing Point’s first F1 victory with the team left feeling like they needed pinching to bring them down to earth.

Perez’s teammate and third-placed finisher, Lance Stroll praised his teammate for his performance whilst cheekily jesting Renault’s Esteban Ocon for denying the team an one-two finish.

Ex Racing Point media manager and, Will Ponissi who dealt with Perez during their time together before his move to Alfa Romeo paid tribute to Perez and Racing Point’s performance on Twitter, tweeting;

Mercedes who gifted Perez victory with dramatic pit-stop errors even sent a message of congratulations to the Pink Panthers of who they supply power units to, tweeting;

George Russell even tweeted that ‘nobody deserves a win more than him’ of Perez’s win after his own attempt to snatch victory from the Mexican was ended by a puncture.

Haas’ Romain Grosjean who is missing what was set to be his final race in Abu Dhabi meanwhile tweeted praise for both Perez and Russell, saying;

Perez’s victory even attracted attention of many ex F1 drivers and members of F1 paddock, with Giedo van der Garde, Marcus Ericsson and 2009 champion, Jenson Button amongst others praising the Mexican for his drive.

Perez also attracted high praise from a variety of stars from IndyCar and BTCC.

Mexican boxer, Saul Alvarez even tweeted his congratulations to Perez on becoming the first Mexican winner in F1 since 1970.
