Felipe Drugovich Joins UNI Virtuosi for 2021 F2 Season

Three-time race winner, Felipe Drugovich has announced that he is to switch from MP Motorsport to UNI-Virtuosi for 2021 Formula Two season.

Drugovich won two Sprint Races plus the Bahrain Feature Race for MP Motorsport en route to a ninth placed championship finish, which has seen him switch to Virtuosi who finished as the Constructor Vice-Champions after the team listened to Callum Ilott’s recommendation during the Bahrain Feature Race Press conference.

It is unclear on whether Ilott will remain with the team or series next season due to sponsorship issues as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking on his decision to join UNI-Virtuosi, Drugovich was praising of their performance, saying; “I think if you take a big picture of the championship, I think UNI-Virtuosi has been the team that has had the best pace,” as evidenced by their speed – “Through the season they had really good qualifying pace and they’re really fast at every track.”

Drugovich also commented on the inconsistency of several teams which ultimately made him decide to sign for UNI Virtuosi, saying; “With other teams you could see they were really good somewhere, but somewhere else, they might not have the pace.

“So I think this has been the most consistently good thing. And that’s why we wanted to get on board with them.”

UNI-Virtuosi Team Principal, Andy Roche spoke of Drugovich’s impressive skills as he added: “Felipe had a fantastic maiden season in Formula 2 this year with three victories, despite the uncertainty 2020 has produced. He has shown amazing pace and ability in only his first year in the championship.”

Roche also iterated the team’s history of working with young drivers to help them quickly find success and that it is the same with Drugovich as he joins the team for the post-season test, saying; “We’re looking forward to him joining us for the post-season test to work with his new team-mates on being ready to hit the ground running at the start of next season.”

Confirmation of Drugovich’s move to UNI-Virtuosi comes just hours after Robert Shwartzman announced he was staying with PREMA alongside the newly graduated Oscar Piastri, whilst Campos will field Ralph Boschung in 2021.
