Reigning F3 Champion, Robert Shwartzman headlines a cohort of Ferrari Junior Drivers who will be racing in Formula Two in 2020.
Shwartzman will partner fellow Scuderia Junior – Mick Schumacher at Prema next season, with Sean Gelael rumoured to be moving to DAMS alongside Brit – Dan Ticktum
Marcus Armstrong will meanwhile move to ART GP, where he will hope to follow in the footsteps of George Russell and Nyck De Vries, who have won the last two F2 Driver titles with the French outfit.
Callum Ilott will make the move to UNI Virtuosi Racing next season after impressing for Sauber Junior Team this year with two podiums plus a memorable pole position at Monza.
Giuliano Alesi has endured a tough season at Trident but will switch to HWA Racelab, who replace the out-going Arden team.
Exciting Prospects
Ferrari’s announcement concerning their young drivers creates plenty of exciting prospects for F2 next season.
Ilott and Schumacher will be hoping to continue their strong progress and mount title challenges, which they were unable to do in their rookie campaigns this year due to their teams not being frontrunners.
Alesi meanwhile will be looking to show his full potential after a tricky season with Trident, although he showed signs of his talent with a superb pair of seventh placed finishes at Monza just a week after his involvement in a tragic accident at Spa.
That incident sadly claimed the life of Alesi’s compatriot – Anthoine Hubert who had won two Sprint races with Arden earlier in the season, so if HWA Racelab can continue Arden’s progress then expect Alesi to push for Sprint victories next season.
Shwartzman meanwhile will be looking to do the consecutive F3/2 double which has only been done once before, by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who won the GP3 (now F3) title in 2016 then dominated F2 in 2017 with Prema before graduating into F1 in 2018.
The Russian will however have tough competition from Armstrong who has secured the red hot favourite seat of ART, who have taken Russell and De Vries to the title in the last two seasons.
No team however has taken three different drivers to three consecutive Driver titles before in the current era of F2 (formerly known as GP2), so all five drivers will have a point to prove next season if they want to reach F1 in 2021.
