2019-20 Premier League: Week 10 – Liverpool vs Tottenham

Premier League leaders, Liverpool face another tough test as they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Anfield in the second Super Sunday clash.

Liverpool can restore their six point lead over Manchester City with a win, as Tottenham look to climb further up towards the European placings.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will be available for Liverpool after missing their midweek European win over KRC Genk through illness.

Joel Matip (knee) is a doubt whilst Xherdan Shaqiri (calf) and Nathaniel Clyne (knee) are ruled out.

Tottenham have a near full squad available after Giovani Lo Celso (hip) returned to the bench in midweek, whilst Ryan Sessegnon is yet to feature in the matchday squad.

Goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris is their only confirmed absentee as he continues to recover from an elbow injury.

Form

Liverpool dropped points for the first time this season in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United last Sunday, but have kept just two clean sheets in their last nine games across all competitions.

Tottenham are unbeaten in three of their last five league games despite taking just two points from their four away games, of which they have lost their last two domestic games on the road.

Stat Attack

  • Liverpool have lost just one of their last 15 meetings with Tottenham in all competitions (W10, D4, L1).
  • Jurgen Klopp’s Reds won both league meetings last season by 2-1 results, in which Roberto Firmino scored during both matches.
  • Victory would ensure that Liverpool have done the calendar year league double over Tottenham for the first time since 2014.
  • Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld has made 697 passes, which more than any other Premier League defender so far this season.
  • Five of Liverpool’s 21 league goals have come from outside the box this season.

Prediction

Liverpool bounced back from a tough trip to Man Utd with a clinical away win in midweek at KRC Genk, so will hopefully continue to cause trouble with their high pressure style.

Tottenham however produced a brilliant midweek win of their own but this is the acidic test in whether their rut is now behind them, because they’re going to need to be pitch perfect in all areas to quieten Liverpool for an entire match.

I however can’t see that being the case and Liverpool will eventually break them down en route to another win.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Result: Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur
