2019-20 Premier League: Week 10 – Southampton v Leicester

Southampton kick off this weekend’s Premier League action with a tasty Friday Night Football clash against Leicester City at St Mary’s Stadium.

A home victory will move the Saints up to 14th whilst Leicester can temporarily climb to second ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

Southampton have no fresh injury concerns to report and Ralph Hasenhuttl could name an unchanged starting eleven from their draw at Wolves last weekend.

Moussa Djenepo (muscular) and Cedric Soares (calf) are both still absent.

Leicester could be without James Maddison due to an ankle injury which has plagued him in recent matches.

Matty James (calf) is still ruled out for an indefinite period.

Form

Southampton are winless in their last four despite drawing at Wolves last weekend, as they extended their goal scoring form to ten consecutive matches in all competitions.

Leicester come into this match with three wins from their last five but lost their two away league trips in that period, albeit against Liverpool and Manchester United as they have taken just four points from four away games.

Stat Attack

  • Southampton’s win at the King Power Stadium in January ended a four match winless run against Leicester in all competitions (W1, D1, L3).
  • Both league meetings last season finished 2-1 to the away team with six different goal scorers in both fixtures.
  • Southampton have scored in all five home league games against Leicester since the Foxes gained promotion back to the Premier League in 2014-15 season.
  • Ricardo Pereira has made 40 tackles in nine games this season, more than any other Premier League player.
  • Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the only Southampton player to have played more than one through ball this season, doing so on two occasions.

Prediction

This is a tough match to predict because Southampton’s issues lies in defence because they’re great when attacking as evidenced by their ten consecutive matches in which they have scored at least once.

Leicester meanwhile have been unlucky to come up against three members of the ‘Big Six’ in their four away games so far this season, although they did have to work hard for their away win at Sheffield United in August.

I therefore wouldn’t be surprised if we see a draw here but Leicester need to win these sort of games if they’re to challenge for a top four finish, so I am going for a late away winner.

Prediction: Southampton 1-2 Leicester City

Result: Southampton 0-9 Leicester City
