2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week Five Roundup

Leeds United remain top of the Sky Bet Championship after another exciting round of fixtures.

Stuart Dallas opened the scoring against Stoke late on in the first half with a powerful shot past Adam Federici, before second-half goals from Ezgjan Alioski and Patrick Bamford secured victory over the rock-bottom Potters.

Swansea still remain level on points with Leeds after taking a 3-0 home win over Birmingham City, ahead of third-placed Charlton who saw off Brentford through Connor Gallagher’s 41st minute strike from Jonny Williams’ pass.

Bristol City climbed to fourth after trashing Hull 3-1 to move above Fulham, who fell to a Lewis Grabban brace for Nottingham Forest despite Aleksander Mitrovic’s late consolation.

Preston complete the top six after Daniel Johnson’s penalty brace was enough to see off Sheffield Wednesday, who earned a late consolation when Steven Fletcher headed in Adam Reach’s cross.

Elsewhere, QPR came from behind to beat Wigan as second-half goals from Nakhi Wells, Eberechi Eze and Jordan Hugill cancelled out Cedric Kipre’s second minute opener for the Latics who now slipped into the relegation zone.

The Lancashire team however sit third bottom after late goals from Ovie Ejaria and Michael Morrison for Reading ensured that Huddersfield would stay second bottom.

Luton got their first win of the season after a three goal routing condemned Barnsley to their first home defeat since March 2018, although Mallik Wilks earned the Tykes a late consolation.

Derby and Middlesbrough were held to respective 1-1 home draws by West Brom and Millwall, although the Midlands’ derby clash saw both the Rams and Baggies score from the penalty spot through Martyn Waghorn and Kenneth Zohore respectively.

Finally, Blackburn made it four matches unbeaten in all competitions after holding Cardiff to a goalless draw at Ewood Park.
