Huddersfield Town vs Bournemouth

Kicking off a Super Sunday triple header, Huddersfield Town welcome Bournemouth to the John Smith Stadium for a relegation six pointer.

Saturday’s results has left Huddersfield in 19th whilst Bournemouth still sit in 10th position.

Team news

Jonathan Hogg could start against Bournemouth.

Huddersfield duo, Christopher Schindler and Laurent Depoitre face late fitness tests after missing the midweek FA Cup replay win with foot injuries.

Midfielder, Jonathan Hogg could return to the starting eleven having been rested in midweek.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe will be hoping to have Adam Smith back from a thigh injury.

Centre back, Steve Cook is in contention despite picking up a hamstring injury last time out.

Jermain Defoe and Tyrone Mings continue to be absent with long term injuries.

Form

2018 has so far been a nightmare for Huddersfield, who are still yet to get their first win of this calendar year after five league games.

In that period, they have scored once and conceded 14 goals at the back.

Bournemouth meanwhile have gone unbeaten since Boxing Day, taking 15 from a possible 21.

They however have kept one clean sheet during that run, leaking in a combined nine goals across six of seven games.

Stat Attack

  • This is the second top flight meeting between these sides, after Bournemouth won 4-0 at home in November.
  • Huddersfield are unbeaten in eight of their ten home meetings with the Cherries this decade. Bournemouth’s two away wins at the Terriers have however come this decade, either side of a 5-1 Huddersfield win in August 2013.
  • The Cherries last failed to score here in January 2008, netting 11 times in five meetings.

Where game won and lost

Per game average Huddersfield (home) Bournemouth (away)
Corners 4.92 5.38
Fouls 9.15 9.08
Shots 9.23 10.38
Shots on Target 3 3.92
Goals 0.85 0.92
Yellow cards 1.31 1.38
Red cards 2 0

There isn’t much to separate these sides but Bournemouth have the edge in attack.

The Cherries however have averaged 6.46 shots off target, if look at gap between average no of shots compared to the average number on target.

Ultimately, they have wasted 0.23 shots more than Huddersfield, despite averaging more than a whole shot ahead of the Terriers.

Huddersfield’s indiscipline at home however might be where they lose this game, having averaged two red cards to the Cherries’ none away from Vitaly Stadium.

Prediction

This is either going to be an open thriller with end to end action or a dour affair with nothing to separate them.

Ultimately, given Bournemouth’s form, I fancy them to just edge this but both set of supporters must be the 12th man here, if their team are to get something from this match.

Prediction: Huddersfield Town 0-1 Bournemouth

Jake predicts: Huddersfield Town 1-2 Bournemouth

Result: Huddersfield Town 4-1 Bournemouth
