2023-24 Premier League: Week 35 – Manchester United vs Burnley

Top-six chasing Manchester United meet relegation battling Burnley at Old Trafford in a blockbuster fixture.

Victory or a draw would see Man Utd stay sixth, whilst Burnley can move up to 18th with a win if Luton lose elsewhere.

Marcus Rashford is a doubt after he missed Man Utd’s comeback win over Sheffield United in midweek, due to an ankle injury.

Mason Mount could return if he passes a late fitness check after he missed their last two matches with a muscle injury.

Willy Kambwala, Sofyan Amrabat (both knock), Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw (all muscle), Lisandro Martinez (calf), Victor Lindelöf (hamstring), Tyrell Malacia (knee) and Anthony Martial (groin) remain sidelined.

Burnley could be without Lyle Foster due to a knock suffered in their win at Sheffield Utd last weekend.

Jordan Beyer (thigh), Ameen Al-Dakhil (unspecified), Nathan Redmond (hamstring), Aaron Ramsey and Luca Koleosho (both knee) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Man Utd host Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday 27 April at 3pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Man Utd are unbeaten in their last five league meetings against Burnley (W4, D1).
  • Burnley have claimed six points from four of their last six visits to Utd (W1, D3, L2).
  • Utd are yet to concede to Burnley in two meetings under Erik ten Hag (W2).
  • Bruno Fernandes has scored four goals in Utd’s last three league matches at home.
  • Dara O’Shea has made more touches on the ball this season than any other Burnley player, having managed 1,864 touches in 29 appearances.

Prediction

After two pretty embarrassing performances where they were first lucky to scrape past Coventry in the FA Cup, then come from behind twice to beat Sheffield Utd, Man Utd need to buck up their ideas because they are a defensive mess yet can look dangerous in attack.

Burnley meanwhile are a team finding late-season form and given their recent form at Old Trafford, they should smell blood here but they really do need to score first and show the clinical quality which saw them batter Sheffield Utd last weekend.

Add in a heavy injury crisis for Utd with limited room for rotation after two physical battles then you have to feel that Burnley will have a chance of getting something, but Utd are yet to concede against the Clarets under Erik ten Hag which will surely go on current form.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Burnley

Result: Manchester United 1-1 Burnley
