Coventry host Sunderland in a massive showdown at the foot of the Premier League table.
Victory would lift Coventry out of the relegation zone and as high as 15th if results elsewhere go in their favour.
Sunderland begin the weekend sat rock bottom but a win could see them climb out of the relegation zone and go as high as 16th.
Team News
Bobby Thomas is unlikely to feature for Coventry due to a calf injury suffered in their 1-0 loss against Fulham last weekend.
Aurele Amenda (calf), Josh Eccles (ankle), Luke Woolfenden (knee) and Haji Wright (quad) remain sidelined.
Sunderland could be without Jocelin Ta Bi after he suffered cramp during their 3-2 Carabao Cup win at home to Brentford in the fourth round on Wednesday evening.
Omar Alderete, Riquelme Angulo, Wilson Isidor (all knock) plus Nordi Mukiele (throat) face late fitness checks, but Dan Ballard (hamstring) and Romaine Mundle (knee) remain ruled out.
When is Kick-Off?
Coventry host Sunderland at CBS Arena on Saturday 31 October at 3pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Coventry have won two of six previous Premier League meetings against Sunderland (W2, D2, L2).
- Sunderland are yet to win away to Coventry in the Premier League (D1, L2), although this is their first top-flight trip to the CBS Arena as their three previous Premier League visits took place at Highfield Road.
- This is Coventry’s first meeting against Sunderland in all competitions to be played on Halloween.
- Coventry have scored in one of their four league matches at home this season (W1, L3).
- Sunderland are looking to keep consecutive Premier League clean sheets for the first time since December 2025.
Prediction
After some progress in the past month and a bit, Coventry seem to have gone backwards slightly with two consecutive defeats but they at least brought fight against Fulham yet lacked a clinical final touch when it mattered, and were ultimately punished late on.
As for Sunderland, their last league game is slightly abnormal if consider the difficult weather conditions and high winds on Wearside against Leeds, yet they dug in with a goalless draw then clinically dispatched Brentford in the cup even though they did concede twice once 3-0 up.
This clash therefore should be interesting because Coventry need to bring more clinical quality, yet Sunderland’s defensive game management is still not the best despite that clean sheet against Leeds but their firepower is a lot stronger.
Throw in the fact that this is an early relegation six-pointer and I just think that Sunderland’s midweek cup win might be the boost that they needed.
Prediction: Coventry 0-1 Sunderland
