2026-27 Premier League: Week Nine – Hull vs Ipswich

Hull meet Ipswich in a mid-table Premier League encounter at the MKM Stadium.

Sat 10th and 12th on 10 points apiece respectively, victory would see Hull or Ipswich climb as high as fifth depending on results elsewhere if Chelsea lose in the lunchtime kick-off.

Team News

Oli McBurnie is available for Hull after recovering from illness, which saw him substituted at half time in their 1-1 draw against Brentford.

Jack Butland (arm), Lewie Coyle (hamstring), Nobel Mendy (groin) and Lucas Gourna-Douath (calf) face late fitness tests.

Eliot Matzo (ACL), Matt Targett (ankle), Darko Gyabi (adductor), Ilyas Ansah (back) and Charlie Hughes (hernia) are still ruled out.

Ipswich will welcome midfielder, Sasa Lukic back into contention after he missed their last two matches due to a minor groin injury.

When is Kick-Off?

Hull host Ipswich at MKM Stadium on Saturday 31 October at 3pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Hull’s first Premier League meeting against Ipswich.
  • Ipswich are making their first Premier League trip to Hull, but are unbeaten in four of their last five visits in all competitions (W2, D2, L1).
  • Hull lost 2-0 in their only previous meeting against Ipswich played on Halloween in 1959, albeit away from home.
  • Hull are winless in their last six league matches (D4, L2).
  • Zian Flemming has scored in two of Ipswich’s last three away matches (W1, L2).

Prediction

Despite not winning any of their last six league matches, Hull have certainly grinded out some solid draws and are unbeaten at home which is a big positive coming into this clash, but they do need to start finding wins if want to stay around the top ten and not slide towards the jaws of the relegation zone.

That latter point also applies to Ipswich who were outplayed at home against Nottingham Forest in periods but clinically punished a sloppy moment in possession by a Forest defender, in a game which was likely to see both teams pick up a point realistically.

Both teams though have exceeded pre-season expectations following their promotions, so this is a nice chance for them to measure themselves up against each other, and my gut instinct is that this could be another 1-1 draw.

Prediction: Hull 1-1 Ipswich
