Fabian Hurzeler has praised Brighton for showing “incredible” unity after a ruthless 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
Jaydee Canvot’s headed own-goal in the fourth-minute set in motion a disastrous away defeat at Brighton as Diego Gomez and Yasin Ayari added further goals within six further minutes, before Charalampos Kostoulas and Jack Hinshelwood sealed the embarrassing result in the second half.
The result extended Brighton’s unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions – during which they have kept clean sheets in five of their last six outings, and they remain third in the Premier League table.
“It’s just a privilege to be part of this group,” commented Hurzeler post match to the club website as he praised the squad for their unity and fight for one another.
“The players are incredible. When they face adversity they are always there for each other. They challenge each other, but they also take care of each other.
“I’m really pleased and happy for everyone who was part of this game today, for everyone who is part of this club.”
Their demolition of Palace marked the second time in their history that they beat the Eagles by a 5-0 result, and Hurzeler hopes that fans can relish the achievement just seven months after they suffered a 1-0 home defeat in this fixture.
“I hope the fans can enjoy the night. It’s a much better feeling than a few months ago when we lost to Palace and that’s why I’m really happy for the supporters and for everyone who was involved.
“We can enjoy it, but on the other side it’s also very important to stay humble and stay grounded because in football things can change quickly.
“So we have to have this hunger inside of us to keep going and never be satisfied – to keep pushing.
“That should be our identity – that we are never satisfied and keep going to get better and better.”
