Hitech have retained Michael Shin for the 2027 FIA Formula Three season.
Hitech’s decision to retain Shin has come after a poor season saw him finish 33rd overall in the drivers’ standings with a season’s best finish of 18th in the Monaco Sprint.
Shin also was one of just two full-time drivers who completed the season to not score a single point alongside DAMS’ Nandhavud Bhirombhakdi.
Hitech’s F3 Team Manager, Paul Bellringer however defended the decision to retain Shin as he argued that 2026 was a year of learning for the 22-year-old South Korean driver and that the continuity will benefit him next season.
“We’re pleased to continue our relationship with Michael into the 2027 FIA F3 season. This year has been an important learning process for him, returning to FIA F3 for a full campaign after his previous experience in the championship.
“Michael has had to learn a lot throughout the season, from the car and tyres to the level of competition and the demands of racing at this level. Having that experience behind him will be valuable heading into his second year.
“We know Michael well from his previous time with Hitech, and we believe there is a lot more to come from him. Continuity is important in Formula 3, and giving him another season with the team will allow us to build on the work we have already done together.
“We’re looking forward to seeing Michael take the next step in 2027 and continuing his development with Hitech.”
Shin added that he feels that he still have areas of his race craft to improve and believes that staying with the team will provide a stable environment for his development.
“There are particular aspects to the FIA Formula 3 championship that make it very competitive and challenging. I felt that there would be more to come from me by staying another year and further working on those areas in a familiar environment.
“I want to thank the team for believing in me and making it possible to continue our journey together.”
