2026-27 Premier League: Week Three – Brentford vs Sunderland

Brentford look to maintain their unbeaten start against Sunderland in the Premier League. 

Victory could put Brentford top if Man City fail to beat Coventry elsewhere, whilst Sunderland can climb into the top ten with a win.

 

Team News

Josh Dasilva is available for Brentford despite having suffered a knock in their 1-1 draw at Leeds last weekend.

Mathias Jensen however is still ruled out with a strain after he missed the trip to Elland Road.

Sepp van den Berg and Antoni Milambo remain sidelined with respective groin and ACL injuries.

Sunderland will be without Habib Diarra until mid-October due to a hamstring injury suffered during their 1-0 victory at home to Fulham.

Dayann Methalie is available to make his Black Cats debut after he was suspended for last weekend’s game.

• Brentford won one of their two previous Premier League meetings against Sunderland (W1, L1).
• Sunderland lost 3-0 in their only previous Premier League trip to Brentford in January 2026.
• Three of Brentford’s four goals against Sunderland last season were scored by Igor Thiago.

Prediction

Having seen their winning start halted at Leeds with an entertaining 1-1 draw, Brentford will be keen to get back to their sharp best because they just seemed to lack the extra bite to beat Leeds’ defence more when they were on top.

Sunderland meanwhile were perhaps lucky to beat Fulham in a scrappy contest where it could of easily finished goalless, but the Black Cats can take heart from their defensive work to limit the Cottagers to no shots on target but they will again need to be robust and clinical to stop Brentford.

Although I really do hope that this is a good scrap given the quality of both teams, I just expect the Bees to be too strong at home but should be more competitive than it was in January.
