2026-27 Premier League: Week Two – Coventry vs Hull

Coventry City face Hull City in a Premier League battle of the newly-promoted clubs.

Victory would lift Coventry out of the relegation zone, whilst Hull could go top with a win if results elsewhere go in their favour.

Team News

Coventry have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 4-2 win at Plymouth in the Carabao Cup.

Haji Wright (quad), Kaine Kesler-Hayden (hamstring) and Luke Woolfenden (knee) remain sidelined.

Ethan Pinnock could be in line for his debut following his move from Brentford.

Hull will have Semi Ajayi and Lewie Coyle available after minor hamstring and ankle scares saw the pair not risked in their Carabao Cup win at Stoke.

Jack Butland (arm), Eliot Matzo (ACL), Darko Gyabi (adductor), Charlie Hughes (hernia), Oscar Zambrano (hamstring), Joe Gelhardt (ankle) and Matty Jacob (hip) are ruled out.

Mohamed-Ali Cho could be in contention for his debut following his arrival from Nice.

When is Kick-Off?

Coventry host Hull at CBS Arena on Saturday 29 August at 3pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.

Prediction

Having had the ideal chance to shake off their lacklustre opening 3-0 defeat at Arsenal with a strong cup win at Plymouth, Coventry now have fresh confidence to bring into this first home game of the season but the defence is still a worry after how they let a 2-0 lead slip against Plymouth.

Hull meanwhile certainly battled past Stoke amidst several changes so I expect Sergej Jakirovic to revert to the team which clinically beat Manchester United in their league opener, and if they play as sharp as they did in that game then they’re going to have a good chance at staying up.

Coventry though will be right up for this match in front of their home fans as this is their first home match as a Premier League club at the CBS Arena, so I am anticipating a competitive game but Hull seem to have settled quicker to being back in the top flight which could be the difference.

Prediction: Coventry 1-2 Hull
