Wrexham have signed defender, Issa Kabore from Manchester City for £2m.
The transfer marks a permanent return to Wrexham for Kabore after he enjoyed a successful loan at the club last season, having contributed eight assists in 32 appearances as the Red Dragons finished seventh in the Championship and reached fourth and fifth rounds in Carabao Cup and FA Cup respectively.
His performances led Wrexham to consider a permanent transfer which was eventually agreed with City for a £2m fee after extensive negotiations, with Kabore having signed a three-year contract until June 2029 and is glad to return and fight for promotion once again.
“I’m very happy to be back. It feels good to be here again. Everybody knows our ambition is to get to the Premier League, and I’m here to fight for that promotion.
“I’m here to fight for this Club, for our fans, and to give back the love everyone gave me last season.”
Kabore began his career at Burkina Faso’s Rahimo FC at youth level before he moved to Belgium’s Mechelen for the 2019-20 season, where he made just five appearances before he joined City’s academy but failed to make a single first-team appearance.
He instead returned to Mechelen on loan for the 2020-21 season where he made 29 appearances, before two seasons in France at Troyes then Marseille followed with one goal in 61 combined appearances, of which his goal came whilst at Marseille in 29 appearances.
City eventually gave him a domestic loan for the 2023-24 season as he joined Luton and made 26 appearances, as the Hatters ultimately suffered relegation after just one season in the Premier League.
Kabore endured two loans in the 2024-25 season after he initially joined Portugal’s Benfica but made just seven appearances, which led to a recall and loan to Germany’s Werder Bremen where he made nine appearances before he enjoyed a strong loan at Wrexham last season.
