Defender, Reece James has rejoined Sheffield Wednesday on an one-year contract until June 2027.
James previously scored one goal in 45 appearances for the Owls between 2022-24, during which he helped them regain promotion from League One to the Championship via the play-offs at the end of his first season – in which he was on loan from Blackpool before he joined permanently.
His sole goal came in the Owls’ second-leg comeback to beat Peterborough at Hillsborough in their play-off semi-final on penalties, after they overturned a 4-0 first-leg deficit to draw 5-5 on aggregate.
The 32-year-old left-back is surprised to be back at the club
“I didn’t think when I left two years ago that I’d be coming back here being able to wear the shirt again, but obviously I’m absolutely delighted.
“From the first training session I had here, I was made to feel really welcome. The changing room is a really good changing room, a great group of lads.
“I’ve been promoted from League One three times, once with Wednesday, and you can try and give whatever wisdom and whatever help you can for the younger players. We all want to push each other as much as we can.”
Sheffield Wednesday’s Sporting Director, Simon Wilson added that the club “are delighted” to sign James and believe that he can have an impact on and off the pitch.
“In addition to providing cover and balance for the squad, he is a fantastic player for the dressing room and the training pitch.
“Often these players are not the ones who get the limelight, but they play an essential role within the group. Reece has a deep feeling for the club from his past here and he is a perfect fit for what we need right now.”
James’ return to Hillsborough comes after he scored four goals in 93 appearances across two seasons at Rotherham United.
