Defender, Sam Byram has joined Middlesbrough on a free transfer.
Byram’s arrival comes just two months after he left Leeds upon expiry of his contract, having scored three goals in 80 appearances in his second spell at Elland Road which included promotion as Championship champions in the 2024-25 season.
The 32-year-old versatile full-back is excited to join Middlesbrough and start a new chapter in his career.

“It’s a club I know well from playing against them over many seasons, so I’m very familiar with the place and delighted to be here.
“It’s a great club and a big club, and one that I’m really happy to be part of.”
Byram graduated through Leeds’ Academy into the first-team squad and scored 10 goals in 143 appearances across his first spell between August 2012 – January 2016, before he moved to West Ham where he spent three-and-a-half years across which he made 36 appearances.
He spent 2018-19 season on loan at Nottingham Forest but made just eight appearances, before the Hammers sold him to Norwich in July 2019, where he spent four years which featured two relegations from the Premier League amidst promotion in 2020-21 season which he sat out due to a hamstring injury.
Byram subsequently returned to Leeds in summer 2023 after his contract at Norwich expired and is now keen to utilise his experience at Middlesbrough.
“I’ve been around this league for a number of years and had a couple of promotions in that time, so I know what it takes.
“It’s an incredibly tough league and a long season, but it’s a great squad and great group. If I can add a bit of experience and a bit of quality, that’s what I’m here to do.”
