Cambridge United manager, Neil Harris has praised Bromley for a “respectful” 1-1 draw.
Ben Knight fired the Us in front in the 67th minute from Sullay Kaikai’s pass, but Victor Adeboyejo smashed an 81st-minute equaliser into the top-left corner as Bromley fought back for a point apiece.
Harris post match was full of praise for Bromley’s ability to capitalise on his team’s wasteful end product and asking questions in the second half with tactical changes.
“I thought first half, I thought we were excellent. And the way we moved the ball, where we handled the ball, chances we created, really good. What was missing is that final moment.
“Fair fair play to Bromley. Second half, made some changes, changed their shape. Um and came out and asked questions of us, made it a lot more difficult without creating a chance against us, made it a lot more difficult for us to build play.
“And you know, we had to wait for a moment and Ben Knight was clinical. So when you get yourselves in front, you know it’s never just going to be a case of it just happens, yeah, because they get bigger and they go longer. And they ask questions of you. And obviously as you know, I’m so respectful.
“I think they’re so good at doing it. And I thought they were so good at doing it for so the last sort of 20 minutes. What we do. My only disappointment is the moment that we just got ourselves too deep on the second ball into the box. And didn’t give ourselves a chance to clear it a lot easier. So, um, and my thought process is a point gained.
“First two games back at the level is four points. So as much as we’re disappointed not to win today, we have to be respectful of the fact this is the team that won our league last year, finished five points above us. So, it’s a strong point.”
Harris added that whilst he was disappointed to see Adeboyejo equalise for the Ravens, he was more frustrated at how his team allowed Bromley to hurt them.
“Yeah, that’s the fair thing that as I put it as a disappointment is just the manner of the goal. But, there are so many questions even that moment. You know, we dealt with so many balls in the box and we dealt with it so well and that’s probably why we didn’t feel under pressure cos we dealt with everything so well.
“But then, they find a way of putting the hurting on you. And they did it against Barnsley last week with one of very few chances and they’ve done it again today with one of very few chances. But you have to respect that and sometimes you just have to accept the result and I look at the positives and how we played and how we affected the game in large parts of it.
“And then we also look at the disappointment of the goal and just say ‘Look, that’s our learning curve today is when we play against big physical teams we have to defend the second phase as well as we defend the first phase.’
