Brentford begin their 2026-27 Premier League season in a London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
Brentford finished ninth last season and missed out on a maiden European qualification on goal difference, whilst Tottenham avoided relegation on the final day at West Ham’s expense.

Mamadou Sangare, Jannik Schuster, Jaidon Anthony and Callum Wilson are set for their club debuts following their arrivals this summer.
Antoni Milambo is still sidelined as he continues to recover from an ACL injury suffered last season.
Tottenham will be without midfielder, Pape Matar Sarr after he suffered a hamstring injury during training.
Mickey van de Ven and Pedro Porro are ruled out due to a lack of match fitness following extended World Cup breaks.
Dejan Kulusevski (knee), Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons (both ACL) remain sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Brentford face Tottenham at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday 22 August at 5:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Brentford are winless in their last six meetings against Tottenham (D2, L4).
- Tottenham are yet to lose away to Brentford in the Premier League (W1, D4).
- Brentford have won just one of their last 10 league matches (W1, D7, L2).
- Spurs didn’t lose any of their pre-season friendlies (W4, D3).
Prediction
Having retained many of last season’s key players after missing out on European qualification via goal difference after a run of one win in their last 10 league matches, Brentford now must find more consistency because the potential is clearly there but they need to stop dropping silly points.
Tottenham meanwhile were lucky to stay up and after a much-needed overhaul this summer with backing of De Zerbi, this is a much-refreshed team who should at least be around the top ten but they will need time to adapt and gel as an unit so patience will be required.
Van de Ven and Porro’s absences also aren’t ideal when Spurs realistically need to hit the ground running and win supporters over after the struggles of their last two seasons, but it is nevertheless a chance for new arrivals to lay an immediate impression.
Throw in the fact that this is a London derby and both teams having early points to prove, I can see a good contest brewing and might just end in a point apiece.
Prediction: Brentford 1-1 Tottenham
