French defender, Mael De Gevigney has departed Barnsley to join Silkeborg for an undisclosed transfer fee.
De Gevigney’s exit has brought his three-year stay at Barnsley to an end following three goals in 128 appearances since he moved from Nimes in summer 2023.
All three of his goals were scored in his first season with the Tykes, which included his maiden professional goal in a 4-0 League One win at Cambridge United in October 2023, before he scored in a 3-3 draw at home to Horsham a month later in the FA Cup.
His third goal came in January 2024 in a 2-1 home loss to Exeter City in the third tier.
The 26-year-old penned a short farewell message on the club website thanking Barnsley supporters, teammates and staff for their support, as he left Oakwell for Denmark’s Silkeborg for an undisclosed fee.
“I just want to thank everybody at Barnsley who made me feel at home during my three seasons in red. The players, staff, every individual involved in the club and obviously, the fans. I wish you the very best and I’ll never forget my time here.”
Barnsley’s Chief Executive Officer, Jon Flatman added: “We would like to thank Maël for his service and dedication whilst with the Club. We did not want to stand in Maël’s way in order to take a different direction in his career and we wish him and his family all the best for the future and in the next step of his career.”
