Coventry City have signed goalkeeper, Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion in transfer worth up to £30 million.
Rushworth spent last season on loan at Coventry from Brighton in which he kept 17 clean sheets and conceded 45 goals in 46 appearances in a promotion-winning campaign, which saw the Sky Blues promoted into the Premier League as Championship champions.
Frank Lampard’s Sky Blues subsequently saw an initial bid to sign him permanently declined, but both clubs eventually came to an agreement totalling £30 million, which consisted of a £22.5m initial fixed fee plus a further £7.5m in add-ons.
The 25-year-old has signed a long-term contract at Coventry and is pleased to be back on a permanent basis and preparing for life in the top-flight.
“I’m really happy, there’s so many emotions that I’ve got.
“There’s excitement, I can finally relax knowing it’s done and that I’m back with the boys and at a Club I loved being at.
“I’m excited to have this new challenge in the Premier League and to be able to call this place home is a big thing I’ve been looking forward to.
“To see the love from the fans and to know I can now get back to playing in front of them, and to get a few pre-season games in, is really exciting. I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere at our first home game after 25 years of waiting to play in the Premier League. It’s going to be unbelievable.
“There are too many feelings, too many emotions to put into words but I’m ready for the next chapter.”
Lampard added: “It’s great to have Carl back with us on a permanent basis.
“He’s a top professional, a great character and he had a huge impact on the team to help us get promoted last season.
“I’m looking forward to working with him again and welcoming him back into the group.”
Rushworth began his career with Huddersfield then FC Halifax Town at youth level before he moved to Brighton in 2019, where he graduated through their academy but failed to make a single senior appearance.
He instead enjoyed successful loans at Worthing, Walsall, Lincoln City and Swansea City, before he was limited to just three appearances at Hull following an ankle injury in the 2024-25 season prior to a recall by Brighton in January 2025 after Jason Steele suffered a shoulder injury.
Rushworth is yet to make his senior international debut for England, but was part of their 2023 UEFA European Under-21s title-winning squad.
