Doncaster Rovers have signed midfielder, Isaac Hutchinson from Bristol Rovers for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Hutchinson enjoyed two separate loan spells at League Two’s Cheltenham Town last season across which he scored 18 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions.
His performances ultimately prompted Doncaster to sign him for an undisclosed fee on an initial two-year contract until June 2028, with option to extend for a further year if his stint at the club is successful.
The 26-year-old midfielder credited manager, Grant McCann for bringing him to the club following discussions, having previously faced Doncaster with visiting opposition and too against previous teams managed by Grant McCann over the years.
“I spoke to the gaffer a while back now and I think everything he said really blended in with what I want out of my career.
“I’ve come to Doncaster a few times, I’ve played against Grant McCann’s sides, and they’ve really been on an upwards trajectory at the moment, so everything sort of lent in to me coming here.”
McCann added: “Quite a few clubs were after him, and the fact that he chose us gives us great reassurance that he wants to come here and he wants to make his mark.
“I’m delighted to get him and I think he’s going to add some goals and assists and presence to our midfield.”
Hutchinson began his career with Ratton Rangers then Brighton & Hove Albion at youth level before he moved to Southend in 2018, where he made his debut and scored twice in 40 appearances across three seasons before he joined Derby County in 2020.
He however struggled to break through into the Rams’ senior team with one goal in four appearances across two seasons, during which he was loaned out to Forest Green Rovers in 2020-21 season then Crawley the next season where he netted twice in 19 appearances.
Hutchinson subsequently spent 2022-24 at Walsall where he managed eight goals in 54 appearances which earned him a move to Bristol Rovers, yet his six goals in 43 appearances couldn’t prevent the Pirates’ relegation to League Two at the end of 2024-25 season.
He however fell out of favour last season despite scoring twice in 11 appearances which led to two separate spells at Cheltenham.
