Zlatko Dalic has quit his role as manager of Croatia Men’s National Team after a nine-year spell.
Dalic took charge in October 2017 and just nine months later, he guided them to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final, where they lost 4-2 to France in a six-goal thriller.
He subsequently oversaw a third-placed finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and runner-up finish in 2022-23 UEFA Nations League, but has now decided to stand down from his position after they exited this year’s FIFA World Cup at the Round of 32 stage with a 2-1 loss to Portugal.
In a social media statement announcing Dalic’s departure, Croatia thanked him him for creating “unforgettable” memories throughout his time in charge.
“A humble arrival. An unforgettable journey. A proud farewell. Following nearly nine years, head coach Zlatko Dalić has decided to close his incredibly successful chapter with Croatia.
“Head coach, thank you for everything – the victories, the achievements, the qualifying berths, the medals, the unity, the respect, and your unwavering commitment to fight for Croatia, both on and off the pitch. The results speak of your coaching virtues. The respect you’ve earned from your players, staff, and opponents speaks volumes about the person you are.”
