2026 FIFA World Cup: Group B – Canada vs Qatar

Canada face Qatar in their second Group B encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With all four teams locked on one point apiece after their opening Group B matches, victory could put Canada or Qatar top of the group table if they better Switzerland’s result against Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Team News

Alphonso Davies is a doubt for Canada after he missed their 1-1 draw against Bosnia & Herzegovina due to a hamstring injury.

Alfie Jones meanwhile wasn’t part of the main training session on Tuesday to focus on his own personalised recovery programme, raising questions over whether he is fit enough for selection.

Qatar have no fresh injury concerns following their 1-1 draw against Switzerland, with a full squad available for selection.

When is Kick-Off?

Canada host Qatar at BC Place, Vancouver on Thursday 18 June at 3pm PDT (11pm BST), live on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Canada’s first World Cup meeting against Qatar.
  • Qatar lost 2-0 in their only previous meeting against Canada, which came in a friendly defeat in September 2022.
  • Canada are yet to keep a clean sheet in a World Cup match – having conceded 13 goals in their seven matches (D1, L6).
  • Qatar are yet to win a World Cup match (D1, L3).

Prediction

Having often lacked the end product to break down Bosnia & Herzegovina’s resilient defence, Canada know that this is now an absolute must-win match if want to have a best possible chance at qualifying for the knockouts, so I expect changes with Cyle Larin starting up top given his form.

Qatar though were lucky that Switzerland’s end product was awful otherwise it could of easily been a heavy thrashing but this is a chance for them to reset, and bring more attacking quality because if they lose this then I don’t see them getting out of the group.

This clash therefore feels likely to be the defining moment in Group B for both teams and I honestly fancy Canada to edge this.

Prediction: Canada 1-0 Qatar

Result: Canada 6-0 Qatar
