Manchester United face Liverpool in a top-five showdown in the race for Champions League qualification.
Victory would see Man Utd secure a top-five finish and qualification for next season’s Champions League, whilst Liverpool will go above the Red Devils into third with a win.
Team News
Luke Shaw is a doubt for Man Utd after he suffered an unspecified injury during their 2-1 win at home to Brentford.
Matheus Cunha (hip) could return but Lisandro Martinez (suspension) and Matthijs De Ligt (back) are still ruled out.
Liverpool will be without Mohamed Salah after he suffered a muscle injury during their 3-1 win at home to Crystal Palace.
Alisson (muscle) and Milos Kerkez (knock) face late fitness checks.
Giorgi Mamardashvili, Conor Bradley (both knee), Wataru Endo (ankle), Hugo Ekitike (Achilles) and Giovanni Leoni (ACL) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Man Utd host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday 3 May at 3:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports Main Event and Premier League channels in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Man Utd have won one of their last six league meetings against Liverpool (W1, D3, L2).
- Liverpool have lost one of their last seven league visits to Man Utd (W3, D3, L1).
- Victory would see Utd do the league double over Liverpool for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
- Utd’s Bruno Fernandes has produced more assists than any other Premier League player this season, having contributed 19 assists in 31 appearances.
- Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk has created more passes than any other Premier League player this season, having produced 2,499 passes in 34 appearances.
Prediction
Following their energetic sharp performance against Brentford, Man Utd must now bring that same quality because this is a huge test of their improvement under Michael Carrick and a chance to seal a top-five finish.
Liverpool though need a strong start because despite their seven-point gap to sixth-placed Brentford, this month has four tricky fixtures – including a potential final-day decider against the Bees if they lose this and the next two and Brentford win their next two games.
Arne Slot’s Reds though can take heart from their clinical display against Palace but they will need to be perfect if they’re to stop Utd.
On that note, I expect a tough battle if both teams bring their best quality but I am gong for Utd to edge this as Liverpool will feel Salah’s absence a bit in this marquee fixture.
Prediction: Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool
