2025-26 League Two: Week 44 – Bromley vs Cambridge

Bromley have another chance to seal promotion in a difficult test against Cambridge United at the top of Sky Bet League Two.

Victory would see Bromley secure automatic promotion and re-open their lead over second-placed MK Dons to seven points.

Cambridge meanwhile can move up to second and close their deficit to Andy Woodman’s Ravens down to just three points with a win.

Team News

Bromley have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 2-1 defeat at MK Dons, with manager – Andy Woodman potentially set to rotate his squad after a sloppy first-half performance led to a triple-change at half time.

Jesse Debrah (unspecified) and Michael Cheek (hamstring) remain absent.

Cambridge will be without goalkeeper, Jake Eastwood after he was red carded in their 4-0 victory at home to Notts County.

Emergency loan signing, Jack Walton consequently could make his debut for the Us, after Neil Harris opted for a more senior goalkeeper to replace Eastwood rather than Ben Hughes.

Shane McLoughlin (Achilles), Sean Raggett (ankle) and Kylian Kouassi (hamstring) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Bromley host Cambridge at Copperjax Stadium on Thursday 16 April at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports Football in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Bromley suffered a 2-1 away defeat in their only previous EFL league meeting against Cambridge.
  • Cambridge are making their first EFL league visit to Bromley, but the pair played out a 3-3 draw at the Copperjax Stadium in the Group Stage of last season’s EFL Trophy, before the hosts won 5-4 in the shootout.
  • Neither team are yet to keep a clean sheet in their meetings across all EFL competitions.
  • Marcus Ifill has scored in each of Bromley’s last two matches (W1, L1).
  • Cambridge are winless in their last six league visits to London-based opposition (D2, L4).

Prediction

Having failed to wrap up promotion at the first time of asking after a lacklustre first half in which MK Dons dominated them with ease before a second-half consolatory fightback, Bromley simply can’t afford to start in neutral gear in front of a sold-out home crowd as this won’t be easier opposition.

Cambridge meanwhile demolished a toothless Notts County despite Eastwood’s red card and with a game in hand, they are well placed to secure promotion but if they want the title then they realistically must win here, yet Harris has bizarrely brought Walton in rather than give one of his young goalkeepers a chance.

That gamble alone is huge especially as this is a sizzling deep-fryer game to be chucking Walton into for his club debut whereas Hughes replaced Eastwood and did a solid enough job, which surely would of earned him a chance to impress from the start in a tough test.

I also hope that Harris is aware of Cambridge’s recent poor away record within London because with a chance to secure promotion at home and preserve their unbeaten home record, Woodman’s Ravens are going to be right up for this and if Walton doesn’t adjust quickly then there will be one outcome.

Prediction: Bromley 2-1 Cambridge
