2025-26 Premier League: Week 28 – Liverpool vs West Ham

Liverpool continue their top-four push against relegation-battling West Ham in the Premier League.

Victory would see Liverpool climb to fifth until Sunday afternoon, but a winning margin of four goals or more would see them rise to fourth.

West Ham can climb out of the relegation zone until Sunday with a win.

Team News

Florian Wirtz is ruled out for Liverpool after he suffered a back injury in warm-up prior to their 1-0 victory at Nottingham Forest last Sunday.

Jeremie Frimpong (hamstring) could return but Wataru Endo (ankle), Alex Isak (leg), Conor Bradley (knee) and Giovanni Leoni (ACL) remain absent.

West Ham have no fresh injury concerns to report after their goalless draw at home to Bournemouth.

Freddie Potts (suspension), Pablo (knock) and Lukasz Fabianski (back) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Liverpool host West Ham at Anfield on Saturday 28 February at 3pm GMT, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last eight league meetings against West Ham (W7, D1).
  • West Ham are winless in their last eight league visits to Liverpool at Anfield (D1, L8).
  • Two of Liverpool’s last four league meetings against West Ham at Anfield have ended in 1-0 wins for the Reds, whilst they more recently won 3-1 in September 2023 then 2-1 in April 2025.
  • Liverpool are looking to record three consecutive 1-0 league wins for the first time since August – September 2013.
  • West Ham have claimed 11 points in their last six league matches (W3, D2, L1).

Prediction

After their sloppy first-half performance, Liverpool were lucky from a defensive perspective to still be level at half time never mind snatch a 97th-minute winner at Forest, so there is clearly work to do if they’re to keep rebuilding their confidence and push for a top-four finish.

West Ham meanwhile missed a huge chance to put the pressure on Forest by only holding Bournemouth to a goalless draw, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s Hammers should be happy with two clean sheets in their last two games in all competitions coming into this bogey game.

On first instinct, this feels like it could be a routine Liverpool home win but if they play as sloppy as they did at Forest and West Ham find their clinical touch, I wouldn’t be shocked if the visitors nick a point here.

Prediction: Liverpool 1-1 West Ham

Result: Liverpool 5-2 West Ham
