Eberechi Eze is thrilled to reach a “special” Carabao Cup Final in his first season at Arsenal.
Eze began his career with Arsenal at youth level but was released in 2011 and only returned to the club last summer, which has seen him help the Gunners sit top of the Premier League and go unbeaten in the UEFA Champions League’s League Phase.
He also scored one goal in four appearances in this season’s Carabao Cup, which included a start in Arsenal’s 1-0 semi-final second-leg victory over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium last night (3 February), which has left him chuffed post-match to reach the Carabao Cup Final just months after his return.
“Of course, this is my club and from young, it’s been the dream. So, to win with Arsenal, to achieve stuff with Arsenal, this is everything to me.
“You want to work as hard as you can, put in the type of performance that you need to put in, and for sure, I believe it will come, and I believe that we’ve got the confidence and the players to do it. We’ll keep pushing for it.”
Eze is no stranger to Wembley after he scored Crystal Palace’s winner against Manchester City in last season’s FA Cup Final, and was part of Palace’s FA Community Shield success against Liverpool at the start of this season before he made the switch to the Gunners.
“Special, special, special,” explained Eze on returning to Wembley. “It’s a game that you want to play in. It’s the games that you want to put these types of performances in and yeah, it’s special to be there for sure.”
Eze added that the home crowd had helped elevate the atmosphere around the stadium which motivated himself and his teammates.
“The supporters, you could see the energy throughout the whole stadium. To feel it, it was powerful and it’s a special moment for us.
“Big performance from the team. I think we worked so hard and put in the necessary performance to get to the final. I think the whole team has worked so hard today and you could see everybody at the end was just dead. So yeah, there’s those types of games that you want to fight in.”
