Middlesbrough have signed defender, Fin Munroe from Aston Villa for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Munroe spent the first half of the season on loan at Swindon where he scored twice in 27 appearances across all competitions, before Villa recalled him earlier this week amidst interest from various Championship clubs.

Boro eventually won the race to sign the 20-year-old ex Chelsea Academy left-back, with Munroe having signed a four-and-a-half year contract on Teesside until June 2030.

Speaking to mfc.co.uk following confirmation of his transfer, Munroe spoke of his happiness to secure a move to a Championship club challenging for promotion.

“I’m really happy to be here. It’s a proud moment for me and my family and I can’t wait to get started.

“The size of the club speaks for itself. It’s a huge club with aspirations of getting back into the Premier League and that attracted me, as did the fanbase and everything about it.

“I’m excited to get going.”

Munroe spent last season on loan at Spain’s Real Union where he scored one goal in 27 appearances.
