Liam Rosenoir has been appointed as manager of Chelsea on a six-and-a-half year contract until June 2032.
Rosenoir was manager of Strasbourg who share the same ownership as Chelsea under BlueCo, having taken charge of the French club in July 2024 and led them to a seventh-placed finish in Ligue 1, which secured qualification for this season’s UEFA Conference League in which they topped the league phase unbeaten.
Strasbourg also lie seventh in this season’s Ligue 1 after a dip in domestic form saw them claim just two points in their last five league games, but his performances in the dugout has led Chelsea to take a chance on Rosenoir with a six-and-a-half year contract.
Speaking to chelseafc.com following his appointment, Rosenoir spoke of his pride at being entrusted with the task of succeeding Enzo Maresca as manager with a vow to focus on building Chelsea’s current identity with unity and teamwork.
“I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club. This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies.
“My job is to protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play as we continue winning trophies. To be entrusted with this role means the world to me and I want to thank all involved for the opportunity and faith in undertaking this job. I will give everything to bring the success this club deserves.
“I believe deeply in teamwork, unity, togetherness and working for one another, and those values will be at the heart of everything we do. They will be the foundation of our success.
“I am excited to work with this extremely talented group of players and staff, to build strong connections on and off the pitch, and to create an environment where everyone feels united and driven by the same goal.
“There is a real hunger to win, and I will give everything, every single day, to help this team compete and win at the very highest level to make everyone connected and proud to be a part of Chelsea Football Club.”
Rosenoir also addressed fans as he continued: “I want our fans to be proud of who we are and what we represent in every single game that we play. They are the soul of this enormous, historic and huge football club.
“I cannot wait to meet you all. I cannot wait to get started.”
Rosenoir is a former player who scored six goals in 444 career appearances across all competitions, having helped Bristol City to 2002-03 EFL Trophy then finished runner-up in 2013-14 FA Cup with Hull City, after the Tigers blew an early 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 in extra time against Arsenal in the Final.
The 41-year-old subsequently moved into coaching at Brighton then Derby as assistant manager, before he enjoyed a three-month spell at the latter as interim manager from June – September 2022.
Hull subsequently appointed him in November 2022 and he led the Tigers to mid-table safety, before an improved first full season in charge saw them finish seventh and missed out on the Championship play-offs by three points, yet Rosenoir was sacked due to differences in football visions with the board.
