Bromley manager, Andy Woodman believes that his team found “a spark” to scrape past Accrington Stanley.

A tough game at Accrington’s Wham Stadium was settled by Deji Elerewe’s 89th-minute winner from Mitch Pinnock’s cross, which saw Bromley stay fourth in the table but moved to within three points of the summit after League Two leaders, Wall slipped up to a 1-1 draw at home to Shrewsbury Town.

Woodman in his post-match interview on YouTube admitted that his team had faced difficult opposition who had been on a six-match unbeaten run until this game, but was pleased that his Ravens were able to capitalise on “a spark” and moment to snatch the win.

“Listen, it was a tough day for us today. Credit to Accrington, they’ve been on a real good run of late and you can see why. They made it very hard for us to give us very, very little opportunities.

“But I said to the guys, you know, we’re going to have to get a spark or a moment from somewhere and we’re going to have to keep putting the ball in the danger area, which we did and it fell just at the end for Dej and he put it in the bottom corner which is a relief you know and I would of settled for a draw at that point.

“You know nil-nil wouldn’t have been the worst result in the world but three points at the end of the game was nothing better than that.”

Woodman however credited Accrington for their contribution to a “fantastic” match as he continued: “Fantastic game of football.

“Um I would say that because we won but you know it was a real sort of could have gone either way that game and credit to Accrington. I thought they were really good today and you know we really had to sort of grasp  at that result.”

Woodman proceeded to praise Pinnock who is the league’s top playmaker with eight assists as he noted Pinnock’s class and particularly for the assist, after the winger curled in a rebound cross after his corner delivery was deflected back into his path.

“Yeah Mitch does what Mitch does. I mean his quality isn’t he? I mean his quality has been immense and today was no different.

“Um you know, put the ball in the right area and you know when you got Deji, Omar [Sowunmi]. Cheeky [Michael Cheek], Nicke [Kabamba], all those big guns going in there, you hope one of them was going to get the end of it and thankfully Deji did.”

With 11 different players having scored league goals so far this season, Bromley have a versatile selection of goalscoring positions which pleased Woodman, who is eager to not rely on last season’s Golden Boot winner, Cheek.

“Yeah it has to be. You know we can’t keep relying on Michael Cheek. You know we got to make sure everyone pitches in with goals and they’re important and that is a massive goal today for us. Um and keeps us right in the pack at an important time.”

The 54-year-old also is keen to see his team keep clean sheets and singled out right-back loanee, Lakyle Samuel for praise.

“Clean sheets are massive. you don’t get promoted or get success without clean sheets. Thought the two centre-halves were immense today. I thought young Lakyle at right-back you know he had a sort of stop-start time with us, I thought he was excellent as well today. Really good performance you know in sort of tricky circumstances.

“Yeah he’s done really well today and I’m chuffing because he’s a lovely young man. He’s learning his trade. He’s you know he come from Man City where he probably hasn’t got to put the ball in the corner quite as much playing for Man City.

“Um but I thought the big thing that impressed me today about him is his headers. He won some headers which again I don’t mean to any different.

“He probably doesn’t have to do that too much at Man City but he’s done some real good defensive heading today and that was good for us.”
