Defender, Alex Greenwood has extended her contract at Manchester City until June 2027.
Since her arrival at City in 2020, Greenwood has scored six goals in 152 appearances in all competitions and last season was appointed captain, following the retirement of Steph Houghton.
She also helped the team win 2019-20 Women’s FA Cup and 2021-22 Women’s League Cup, although the team has recorded fourth-placed Women’s Super League finishes in two of the last three seasons – sandwiched by a second-placed finish in the 2023-24 season.
Greenwood this season with City moved top of the WSL last weekend with a 2-1 win at Everton, and the Bootle-born England international has now committed her future beyond this season with a new one-year contract extension until June 2027.
“I’m really happy to stay here, it’s the club I love and the club I want to be successful at and I’m really happy to be here for another two more [years].”
“Personally, I have so much unfinished business to be done, and I love this football club. It feels like home to me now and I feel this is where I belong and am meant to be.”
Man City’s Director of Women’s Football, Therese Sjogran added that the club are “absolutely delighted” that Greenwood will stay with the club for at least one more season such is her impact on and off the pitch.
“It’s difficult to put into words how important she is on and off the pitch, and I know my respect and admiration for her as a player and person is shared by everyone at City.
“We’re excited by the direction this team is going in this season and beyond, and Alex is central to those ambitions.”
