Bromley Head Coach, Andy Woodman expects “fireworks” as the Ravens look to return to winning ways against Chesterfield in League Two.
Bromley’s unbeaten start to the league campaign came to an end at Oldham last weekend in a 1-0 defeat but Woodman is already focused on Chesterfield, in a home fixture which has seen them keep just one clean sheet in their last seven home clashes against the Spireites.
In his match preview on Bromley’s YouTube channel, Woodman expects nothing less than drama such is the closely-fought nature of this fixture as he praised Chesterfield’s manager – Paul Cook for his humbleness in playing the Spireites down.
“Yeah it’d be the same, wouldn’t it? It’ be feisty. I’m sure pretty feisty Cookie’s a wily old fox. He knows all the tricks of the trade and he’s got a good team. You know he’ll tell me he hasn’t. He’s got a very good team.
“He’ll also tell me he’s got the smallest budget in the league. But they’re a good team, you know they’re a big club, Chesterfield. And it’s always good.
“I look forward to this game probably as much as any other game because you know you’re pitting yourself against the best team in the league, one or certainly one of the best teams in the league and doesn’t matter what division we’re in., they’re always going to be up there.
“I look forward to this game and making sure that we compete well and we do what we’re good at as well. And I’m sure that there will be fireworks along the way as there always is but after we will have a beer and shake hands.”
Woodman also iterated that he felt that his Ravens “were a little bit flat” in their defeat at Oldham with a missing dose of quality in an uncharacteristic display.
“I thought in certain moments we lacked a little bit of quality and we just weren’t really Bromley like, you know just the final pass, keeping the ball a little bit better at certain times particularly away from home.
“We weren’t quite there. That said we created enough chances still to win the game, I felt or certainly get a draw out of it but it wasn’t to be you know and credit to Oldham. They sort of got the result and punished us for it.”
Loan signing, Lakyle Samuel made his club debut at Boundary Park but Woodman explained that patience will be key as the youngster adapts to the club in his first senior loan spell away from Manchester City.
“Yeah he’s settling in ok. It’s not going to happen overnight. It’s his first loan. We got to make sure we look after him and makes sure he knows how we play, the way we play, and what we expect from him as well. So you know he is going to be one of those that will feature for sure but we just going to make sure we do the right things because he’s still a young player.”
Defender, Carl Jenkinson has missed the start of the season after he suffered a hip injury in their final pre-season friendly against Millwall in late July, but Woodman is confident that the ex Arsenal player is heading in the correct direction in his recovery.
“Yeah Carl’s one of those people that wants to go probably faster and quicker than his injury is letting him, and that’s just Carl. It’s great to see him around the place. We all love Carl. He’s a great professional, great lad, and we just got to make sure we keep Carl patient really because he’s the one who wants to sort of speed it up.
“All the signs are good. They’re positive, there’s not a day or deadline on it when he is going to be back, but he’s certainly going in the right direction and we love it when he comes in and he’s around us as a player and as a team member.”
