Roundup of the third round of the 2026 F3 season in Barcelona, Spain.
Ugo Ugochukwu arrived in Barcelona sat top of the drivers’ standings with an eight-point lead over home hero, Bruno Del Pino as both drivers looked to boost their title chances coming into a busy period of the season.
Freddie Slater, Brando Badoer and Theophile Nael however looked to boost their own title ambitions in the Catalonian region of Spain.
Practice
DAMS’ Nicola Lacorte and Nandhavud Bhirombhakdi led everyone out on track as soon as the session began, yet everyone soon pitted after their outlaps because of little need to rush into practice due to having done pre-season testing at the circuit.
AIX Racing’s Fernando Barrichello eventually set 1m 47.156 as the initial unrepresentative benchmark, which he lowered to 1m 30.655 on his second flier.
Times soon began to tumble in a mid-session flurry which saw Theophile Nael eventually finished fastest with 1m 28.422 in the 24th minute, with nobody else unable to beat that time in remainder of the session as he headed Ugochukwu and Ernesto Rivera in a Campos 1-2-3.

Qualifying
Escotto, David and Barrichello were first on track but it was McLaughlin who set the pace with 2m 03.121, which he soon lowered to 1m 32.078 only for that lap to be deleted due to a track limits breach.
Once everyone set their first lap times, Ugochukwu set the pace with 1m 28.707 ahead of Kato and Deligny, whilst Stromsted, Giusti, Sharp, Taponen, David, Deligny and Yamakoshi saw their lap times deleted – which saw Rivera move up to third following deletion of Deligny’s lap time.
Everyone opted for a second mid-session flier rather than a lull which saw Nael post 1m 28.263 in the 19th minute to go fastest from Ugochukwu and Badoer.
His lap time ultimately proved enough for Nael to claim a third consecutive Feature Race pole in a Campos front-row lockout ahead of Ugochukwu, whilst Yamakoshi was amongst a minority of drivers to improve on their final runs as he qualified third.
Badoer, Kato, Del Pino, Rivera, Deligny, Taponen, Slater, Wharton and Xie rounded out the top 12 qualifiers.

Sprint Race
Kato stalled from eighth on the grid whilst Colnaghi pitted at the end of the formation lap but once the race got underway, Xie fought off Wharton who got outdragged by Slater from the outside of turn three to the inside of turn five as he lost second to the Brit.
Wharton however fought back two laps later with DRS into turn one to repass Slater on the inside and repeated that move on Xie two laps later for the lead, whilst Slater followed suit on lap seven just as a virtual safety car (VSC) was deployed after Rivera stopped on the old chicane with an electrical failure.
Stewards subsequently deployed the safety car on lap eight for two laps and racing resumed at the end of lap 10, as Wharton comfortably fended off Slater’s advances.
The safety car however was redeployed on lap 13 after Ugochukwu had worked his way up to seventh only to spin out at turn three, as he attempted an outside overtake on Deligny only to lose control on the dust and marbles off the racing line.
Racing resumed on lap 17 as Wharton eventually cruised to his second F3 victory from Slater and Xie, whilst Taponen settled for fourth and Deligny and Del Pino exchanged positions after Deligny had initially dropped behind the Spaniard into sixth to play the team game.
Yamakoshi, Nael, Sharp and Badoer rounded out the top ten although Badoer had initially been handed a 10-second time penalty, having struck Rivera’s slowing Campos out of the final corner on lap five which stewards didn’t realise was down to Rivera’s sudden electrical failure upon exit with no reaction time available.
Ugochukwu’s title lead was cut to zero points after Slater moved level with the American on 43 points although Ugochukwu remained top on countback with his sole victory, whilst Del Pino slipped three points behind the pair in third on 40 points.

Feature Race
Nael led from lights out as Yamakoshi leapfrogged Ugochukwu into second whilst Badoer lost fourth to Del Pino who made up two positions.
Slater meanwhile was on the early move from tenth on the grid as he cleared Taponen and a slow-starting Kato for eighth followed by Deligny, Rivera and Badoer.
The race soon settled into a massive DRS train as everyone attempted to save tyre life for the closing laps amidst three VSC periods, which included the removal of Lacorte’s car after he was spun out by Bhirombhakdi on lap 7.
Up front, Nael kept Yamakoshi within one second until he cut the Japanese driver adrift at the end of lap 16 to cruise to victory.
Ugochukwu meanwhile lost third to Del Pino on that same lap but repassed the home hero on lap 20, whilst Slater had caught the pair but was repassed by Badoer over the start-finish line a lap later after a mistake out of the final corner.
Badoer and Deligny eventually demoted Del Pino to sixth ahead of Rivera who swapped positions with Slater due to a five-second time penalty for the latter, after he cut a corner on the opening lap.
Kato and Gladysz snatched the final two positions in ninth and tenth following a frantic scrap with Taponen who dropped to 14th at the end.
Ugochukwu stayed top of the driver standings with a six-point lead over Nael, with Del Pino and Slater not far behind in third and fourth respectively.
F3 now takes a two-week break ahead of the fourth round of the season in Spielberg, Austria across the weekend of 26-28 June.
