Defender, Lakyle Samuel is aiming to enjoy a “good experience” on loan at Bromley Football Club.
Samuel joined Andy Woodman’s Ravens on a season-long loan from Manchester City on deadline day but only arrived at the club officially today (9 September), due to his involvement in England Under-20s’ 2-1 defeat to Italy as a 58th-minute substitute.
The 19-year-old defender nevertheless is keen to gain first-team experience in his first senior loan as he explained his thoughts on his decision to join Bromley in an interview on the club’s YouTube channel.
“Yeah I mean hopefully it will be a great experience for myself and hope I can help the team, you know, progress even further than they have like walking around the facilities and stuff.
“I think it’s just amazing like where, you know, they started and where they are now. It’s just crazy. So I feel like it will be beneficial for me to be here and, you know, try and be the best I can be for the team.”
Samuel also praised manager, Andy Woodman for his impressive “morals” in wanting stability in the dressing room and players who can add to the squad’s vibes without much issue.
“Just his morals like he was like don’t want anyone in the team that going to ruin any vibes and stuff like didn’t want anyone messing up anything. So I feel like I am a hardworking player, you know, hopefully I can help the team out in tough situations and obviously when we are winning, you know, having good time with everyone.”
With Bromley marking Samuel’s first loan experience, he is keen to embrace the opportunity which meant leaving home for the season, but is confident that his new teammates can help him settle in and adapt to life in South-East London.
“Yeah I mean my first loan so it’ll be obviously a good experience for myself. So obviously moving away from home as well difficult but I feel like I’ve got a good good team around me which will you know help me get through it.”
Samuel however will have a familiar face in the dressing room to support him as he reunites with fellow loanee, Jemiah Umolu, who he knew from their time together in City’s Academy and is excited to see him and the rest of the squad.
“He was at City previously like when we were younger so like kept in contact with him and stuff. So when he seen it he was pleased for me to be coming down and be nice for me to obviously see him again and see all the players.”
Having spent his career so far within Man City’s youth setup, Samuel offered a teaser of what Bromley supporters will be able to expect from him this season.
“I’d say technical. Technical on the ball, um composed, I’d like to say and level-headed like in tough situations I feel like I can control the game a bit as well. Um and defensively as well I feel like I can progress even further when I join the team.”
Bromley currently lie fifth in League Two after they missed a chance to go top in a controversial 2-2 draw at home to Kent rivals, Gillingham, but Samuel is confident that they can challenge for promotion this season.
“Well if I am being ambitious like want to be in the playoffs and get promoted, like I feel that should be the aim for all of us and who’s involved in the team and the staff members. And I feel like individually I just want to show what my abilities are.
“Obviously, coming from City as well, I feel like there’s a responsibility to perform so I feel like I’m up to the task to perform.”
