Luton Town meet Cardiff City at Kenilworth Road in a huge League One clash.
Victory would see Luton leapfrog Cardiff and go second, although they would need to win by a three-goal margin to displace Stevenage at the summit for at least a few hours.
Cardiff meanwhile can go top with a win before Stevenage visit Huddersfield in the 3pm kick-offs.
Team News
Luton have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 1-0 home win over Wigan in midweek.
Reuell Walters (groin), Hakeem Odoffin (unspecified) and Tahith Chong (groin) remain sidelined.
Cardiff have no fresh injury concerns to report following a 1-0 victory at AFC Wimbledon, as Perry Ng (unspecified) and Alex Robertson (shin) near returns but it is unclear if they will be fit for this trip.
When is Kick-Off?
Luton host Cardiff at Kenilworth Road on Saturday 23 August at 12:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports+ Red Button in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Luton have won each of their last five meetings against Cardiff (W5).
- Cardiff have avoided defeat in five of their last seven visits to Luton (W3, D2, L2).
- Luton are chasing three consecutive home wins over Cardiff for the first time this century, having last achieved that feat in a four-match streak from December 1973 – September 1978.
- Matt Bloomfield’s Hatters have kept clean sheets in three of their first four league games this season (W3, L1).
- Cardiff are looking to keep four clean sheets in the league for the first time since February 2018, when they were then in the Championship and gained promotion that season to the Premier League.
Prediction
If there is one thing about Luton that is consistent so far this season, it is their ability to grind out results even in their losses at Coventry – albeit in Carabao Cup – and Bradford so I expect another tough contest for their fans especially against a fellow relegated team.
Cardiff meanwhile are unbeaten with clean sheets in their last three league matches but haven’t exactly been convincing on the road with a goalless draw at Port Vale, followed by a scrappy 1-0 win at AFC Wimbledon which shows that they’re beatable away from home if the opposition is good enough.
Both teams though have three clean sheets in four league games so far which makes this a tough game to call, so I can see a goalless draw coming as there isn’t much to separate them.
Prediction: Luton 0-0 Cardiff
Result: Luton 0-1 Cardiff
