Bromley Held by Shrewsbury in Goalless 2025-26 Season Opener

Bromley began their second season in League Two with a goalless draw away at Shrewsbury Town.

In an evenly-matched contest, Bromley enjoyed the better attacking opportunities, which included a fourth-minute goal from Marcus Dinanga which was ruled offside after he fired in his shot from Kyle Cameron’s header.

The result left Bromley and Shrewsbury sat 14th and 17th respectively in the table.

Having enjoyed a productive pre-season ahead of their second League Two campaign, Bromley unsurprisingly started on the front wood as summer signing, Cameron put a shot wide just over a minute into the game.

Cameron soon turned provider in the fourth minute as he headed Mitch Pinnock’s cross across for Marcus Dinanga to slot in, albeit offside on his first competitive start since late September 2024 when he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

Bromley’s shot-stopper, Grant Smith was up to his usual heroics moments later to deny Anthony Scully then John Marquis, as Shrewsbury made a slow start to life back in League Two after a decade in League One.

Dinanga and Corey Whitely both saw chances denied in a dominant first half from Andy Woodman’s Ravens, whilst Shrewsbury’s goalkeeper – Toby Savin managed to keep the Salops in the match as Bromley enjoyed much of the possession and attacking opportunities.

The match however was suspended in the 30th minute after one of the officials suffered an injury which required a brief search for a replacement, before first-half play resumed nine minutes later with a further 17 additional minutes of injury time as a consequence.

Shrewsbury eventually found their groove in the second half with little clear-cut quality, but Savin was alert up at their end to save a tame 71st-minute shot from Dinanga.

Both teams however was able to match each other defensively as Shrewsbury enjoyed a late spell of possession with little clear-cut attacking penetration to trouble Smith, as Bromley grinded out a solid goalless draw to preserve their 100% defensive opening-day record in the EFL.
