England’s hero, Chloe Kelly headlines the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 Team of the Tournament XI.
Kelly failed to start any of England’s six matches but managed to make an impact in her six substitute appearances as she scored their semi-final winner against Italy on the rebound from a save penalty, whilst she produced two assists – including the cross for Alessia Russo’s headed equaliser in the final.
The 27-year-old also dispatched the winning penalty in a 3-1 shootout win over Spain to secure England’s second consecutive Women’s Euro title as the Lionesses successfully defended their crown.
Russo also made the forward selection after she managed two goals and three assists in six appearances for the Lionesses.
Lucy Bronze was selected as the right back of the tournament in the XI after a gutsy campaign saw her play a huge role in England’s defensive resilience with one goal and 36 ball recoveries, whilst playing with a fractured tibia.
Hannah Hampton was selected as the goalkeeper of the tournament in the XI after she managed to make eight saves in two penalty shootouts, as the Lionesses saw off Sweden in the Quarter-Finals before they beat Spain in the final.
Elsewhere, Germany’s Jule Brand completed the forward line after she managed two goals and assists apiece in five appearances, including the opening goal in the eight-time champions’ shock 4-1 loss to Sweden in their final Group C match.
Spain however dominated the midfield selection with Patricia Guijarro placed as the defensive midfield player of the tournament, such was her impact for the runner-up in that position despite only delivering one goal and assist throughout the whole tournament.
No midfielder also made more ball recoveries than Guijarro who managed to recover the ball on 38 occasions.
Aitana Bonmati meanwhile fills one of the two central midfield roles despite contributing one goal and one assist apiece, as UEFA Technical Observer Group (UTOG) crowned her as player of the tournament for her ball-carrying skills and creativity.
“Aitana Bonmatí was the driving force in the Spain midfield throughout the tournament. The way she carried the ball helped to bring creativity to Spain’s attacks; offensively she was outstanding. She was the key influence behind Spain’s style.”
Alexia Putellas filled the last midfield role after she was an integral part of the world champions’ run to the final with three goals and four assists in six appearances.
Bronze was joined in defence by Spain’s Irene Paredes, Italy’s Elina Linari and Germany’s Franziska Kett, although Kett had played just twice yet managed to produce similar stats to players like Brand and Rebecca Knaak who had played five matches for the 2022 runners-up.
UTOG explained the decisions behind their team of the tournament as down to reflecting those who shone technically against those who made big impacts despite not featuring a lot.
“With our selection of players, we have looked to include not only players who have illuminated the tournament with their technical ability and teamwork, but also players who have made a huge impact on the biggest of matches.”
