A combined peak of 15.6 million viewers tuned in to watch England retain their UEFA Women’s Euro title in the 2025 Final.

Chloe Kelly’s winning penalty saw England defeat Spain 3-1 in a penalty shootout to retain the title after she had set up Alessia Russo’s equaliser which cancelled out Mariona Caldentey’s header in a comeback 1-1 draw in Basel, Switzerland.

In the UK, an average of 7.2 million viewers tuned in to watch BBC One’s coverage from 3:40-8;45pm, whilst the broadcast recorded a 11.6 million peak, whilst ITV averaged two million from 3:30-9pm with a peak of 4 million to take the combined TV peak figure to 15.6 million with a 9.2m average.

The peak made the match the UK’s most-watched TV broadcast to date in 2025 and is unlikely to be beaten throughout the remainder of the year, although it was down 1.9 million on the 17.5 million peak recorded in 2022 when BBC held exclusive rights to the showpiece match.

BBC reported 4.2 million streams of the final across BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport website and app, whilst BBC Sport’s live page received 11.4 million views.

BBC’s TV coverage of the whole tournament reached a total audience of 22.1 million, whilst the UK broadcaster recorded 231 million total views across BBC Sport social media accounts.

“This final was a landmark moment in sporting history,” explained BBC Director of Sport, Alex Kay-Jelski who described Kelly’s winning penalty as a moment that will go down in national history in a tense finish to a thrilling tournament packed with emotions.

“The kind of moment people will remember exactly where they were when they watched it.

“The incredible Lionesses took us on an emotional rollercoaster, and millions were hooked on BBC coverage from start to finish – from live streaming post-match analysis to millions following our live page and younger audiences in huge numbers on social media.”
