Charlton Athletic have signed forward, Charlie Kelman from QPR for £5m.
Kelman spent last season on loan at Leyton Orient where he scored 27 goals in all competitions and won League One’s Golden Boot, although the Os missed out on promotion to Charlton in the Play-Off Final in late May.
The Addicks subsequently swooped for Kelman to boost their forward selection with a £5m offer, which consisted of a £3.5m fee plus a further £1.5m in add-ons.
Kelman has signed a four-year contract at The Valley until June 2029 and is “excited” to join a strong squad looking to make a splash in the Championship.
“I’m excited to be here. It’s a good squad, defensively solid and going forward very good as well. I feel like I’m ready for the Championship. I’m going to give it my best shot. I want to get my head down, score some goals and enjoy it.”
Manager, Nathan Jones added that he is “really delighted” to secure Kelman ahead of the season after extensive scouting and negotiations, which ramped up after Charlton secured promotion.
“With our promotion, it was something we went after really hard. I want to thank the Board and the owners for the support we’ve had in getting this over the line.
“He’s a goalscorer – which he proved last year. He’s scored 27 goals, played lots of games and he’s a great age. He’s everything we want at Charlton and adds to an already really strong strikeforce that we have.”
QPR CEO, Christian Nourry added that Kelman had requested to leave the Hoops following his successful season at Orient, and was pleased that both club and player were able to secure a transfer which suited both parties.
“When it became clear Charlie did not want to extend his time with us, we have worked with him to achieve this transfer while also acting in the best interests of the football club.”
