Barcelona have signed forward, Marcus Rashford on a season-long loan from Manchester United, with a £30.3m option to sign him on a permanent transfer.
Rashford had fallen out of favour at Utd since Amorim replaced Erik Ten Hag as manager in November 2024, although he was part of Amorim’s first six matchday squads in all competitions before he was completed dropped in mid-December.
He subsequently featured in just one of their 13 matches from 15 December – 2 February when he completed a loan switch to Aston Villa on the latter date, with his sole Utd appearance in that time having came as an unused substitute in a 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle on 30 December.
Rashford eventually rediscovered his form at Villa with four goals and five assists in 17 appearances, although his loan spell was curtailed by an ankle injury which saw him miss the final month, whilst the Villains ultimately opted against signing him on a permanent transfer.
Amorim though didn’t see Rashford’s future still belonging at Utd and allowed him to speak to various European clubs, before Barcelona negotiated a season-long loan with an option to sign him on a permanent transfer for £30.3m if the season’s spell is successful.
Rashford will wear the number 14 shirt for the upcoming 2025-26 season, whilst Barcelona issued a statement confirming that he signed the contract in front of board members.
“The player have signed his contract as a Barça player this afternoon in at a private meeting in the presence of the FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta; the director of the Football Area, and other Board members.”
Confirming Rashford’s loan move, Utd issued a brief statement wishing their forward well for the season.
“Everyone at Manchester United wishes Marcus good luck for the season.”
