Germany meet Spain in a blockbuster concluding semi-final at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
Germany overcame France on penalties after a comeback 1-1 draw in the Quarter-Finals, whilst Spain clinically dispatched Switzerland.
Teams
Kathrin Hendrich is suspended for Germany after she was sent off in their comeback victory over France.
Sara Linder is also sidelined after she suffered an ankle injury in the Quarter-Final, with Christian Wuck having confirmed that she would miss the final if the eight-time winners prevail in this match.
Carlotta Wamser is back from her one-match suspension, whilst Giulia Gwinn remains absent with a medial collateral ligament injury.
Spain will be without defender, Laia Aleixandri as she serves an one-match ban following her second booking of the tournament.
When is Kick-Off?
Germany face Spain at Stadion Letzigrund, Zurich, Switzerland, on Wednesday 23 July at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on BBC One in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Germany won their only previous UEFA Women’s Euro clash against Spain by a 2-0 result in the group stage of the 2022 edition.
- Spain are chasing their first victory over Germany at UEFA Women’s Euro.
- Germany haven’t gone three consecutive games without a win in all competitions since July – September 2023 (D1, L2).
- No player has been involved in more goals at this edition than Spain’s Alexia Putellas (three goals + four assists).
Prediction
Having produced a gutsy defensive display to scrape past France on penalties amidst another red card, Germany have to be absolutely disciplined and clinical because they can’t avoid afford a repeat because Spain will be brutal to defend against with ten women no matter Ann-Katrin Berger’s heroics.
Spain meanwhile certainly had to grind out their win over Switzerland with two clinical second-half goals but they need to rediscover their free-flowing dangerous spark of the group phase, especially if they’re to beat a stubborn German defence who will happily let them dominate the ball.
Throw in the fact that a place in the final is at stake and I expect this to be fiercely close but if it goes to extra time, Germany’s Quarter-Final exertions could well catch up with them against Spain’s attacking depth.
Prediction: Germany 1-2 (AET) Spain
